About this residency

Ark of Art is the idea of inspiration, cooporation and relaxation.
It is about a big house that offers the possibility of real rest and personal or collaborative work in arts and culture.
The main goal is the possibility for each individual, artist or not, to be inspired and to create in a unique environment of tranquility as well as the expansion of the community of arts and culture.

Further goals are:

artistic activity with a predetermined thematic or experimental character
teaching, interdisciplinary practice or collaboration
the exchange of experiences
personal contact with people of common interests and quests
leisure and inspiration
the broadening of horizons
the promotion of artists

response to open calls: the guest artist declares participation in invitations organized by the administration. These invitations concern a cycle of artistic activity with a specific duration and a specific theme. The purpose is the production of a work by the guest artists, individual or collective. In order to support the artists, the administration undertakes to exhibit the work in an art space.
free theme: any artist can apply to stay in the space for a specific period of time that should be harmonized with the current calendar without committing to a predefined theme. He can work on his own theme or just experiment with free inspiration. No harmonization with the other guests or their art is required. This model supports the personal expression but also the coincidence of different arts and the free development of their means of expression.
invitation for collaboration: each artist or teacher can suggest collaboration to organize and support a theme, invite his/her team and coordinate it in a specific practice that he/she will suggest. The administration will offer the space and any other help that is desired (curation, equipment, exhibition organization). The goal is the implementation of a specific idea, learning cycle or production of a collective project. The current calendar will be respected.
invitation to a distinguished teacher to support a seminar related to his art. The participating team will be invited and informed by the administration and will express their participation in time. The teacher will be invited by the administration as well, will be hosted free of charge and will be paid for his seminar directly from the group members as the art residency is offered on a paid basis as accommodation only, not charging for the activity.
recreation and inspiration: the artist uses both, the accommodation space and the wider area, with the aim of introspection, observation, abstention from studio work, contact with nature and social contact as a tool for inspiration . His stay in the space may not lead to the production of a project but to facilitate its maturation. In this model, case-by-case communication with the direction is necessary as it does not obey a predetermined, predictable framework.

The basic cost is minimum 420 Euros/person for a stay of 1 week (7 nights) and 780 Euros/person for a stay of two weeks respectively (14 nights). The weekend is charged 180 Euros/person, for 2 nights. This is an exception rental and only applies to certain seminars or private rental. The use of a double room by one person is in accordance with the order of priority in the reservations, while his demand is charged with a surcharge. The basic cost is an accommodation cost and includes administrative expenses, accommodation expenses and basic feeding expenses as far as the supply of materials is concerned, not as a service as in this offer we operate as a community. It is distributed per day and person and thus a total cost is obtained for each person. It may vary from case to case as it depends on the duration and the fullness of the accommodation.
An extra cost may be paid for the teacher's fee or the special requirements that may be asked from the administration such as special materials, additional equipment, differentiation in feeding and transportation. This extra cost is paid with full transparency directly at its source by the participants and is not considered in any way as an income or profit of the hosting.
The cost, basic or not, does not include accident or other liability insurance. This is the sole responsibility of the participants.
The guest's responsibility is the proper use/arrangement of the equipment and the removal of garbage or material residues that will result from their work and residence.
Tax (VAT) is required only for the cost of the accommodation and no receipt is provided or taxed for any other service is offered in the context of the good function of the community.
For groups of students or other financially ill people it is advisable to seek external resources or sponsorships.
No profit in money or in kind is intended from the commitment of the work produced in the space, while any use for the promotion of the artist or the events is made with the consent of the artist and in no way constitutes proof of copyright.

outdoor courtyards with different orientations and sufficient space for activity, as well as free plot. The environment has nice light, extensive views and a variety of flora. The size of the plot is 4,000m2. The house is built on a hill, 1.5 km from the sea. It is developed on three levels following the morphology of the soil and always maintaining the relationship with the environment. This, in combination with the harmony of the spaces and the quality of the materials, gives a positive aura that acts beneficially to the tenants.
accommodation is in the form of cohabitation and cooperation. Proper use of space, cleanliness, safety and respect for the partner / roommate is everyone's responsibility as the space operates in the form of a small community. Food is the responsibility of management for practical reasons. Guests stay in groups of 2 people (there is also a larger one with 3 single beds) and share a bathroom for 4 people. The accommodation offers comfortable sleep for 7-13 people and necessarily accommodates an additional 5 people on sofas / beds.
the duration of a cycle is preferably not less than 6 nights (one week). On occasion, an agreement can be made for a weekend (2 nights) with a charge on the cost of accommodation. This requirement is usually met by professionals in small seminars and is respected. The total duration It can be combined with leisure and there is no time limit on the total stay as long as the current booking calendar allows. Ideally offered from April to November.

area and possibilities

the area offers at reasonable distances a variety of cultural sites such as archeological sites, museums, monasteries and traditional settlements as a starting point for inspiration or as places for artistic activity or leisure. Excursions, hiking, agricultural activities, boat rides or water sports can be arranged in consultation with the management. Nature generously offers a unique coves for sea baths with ideal temperatures from May to October. Gastronomic variety is offered. There is a summer cinema. There is a Health Center in Kranidi (7km).
movement is the responsibility of the participants. Apart from the I.X. There is a bus or catamaran bus service to Athens or Piraeus (2.5 hours). Locally it is necessary the I.X. if transfers are to be made.

the charges
